Dr. Catherine Sweeney

Dr. Catherine Sweeney graduated from Medicine in UCD in 2009. After completing her internship in the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, Dublin, she spent 6 months working in Emergency Medicine in New South Wales, Australia. She returned to Ireland to commence her General Practice Training on the Western Training Scheme in 2011. During her training programme, she worked in Paediatrics, Psychiatry, Infectious Diseases, Geriatric Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and graduated in 2015.

She has a keen interest in Medical Education and was a Clinical Lecturer in NUI Galway from 2015 to 2017. Since 2022, she is a GP Trainer on the Western Training Scheme in General Practice.

She practices a holistic approach to General Practice and has a broad knowledge base catering to all ages, genders and lifestyles. However, she has extensive experience in Child Health, Women’s Health, Family Planning, Genitourinary Medicine and Mental Health.

She also volunteers as a Community First Responder in conjunction with the National Ambulance
Service, serving the local area in the event of life-threatening emergencies.

Dr. James Killen

James is from County Down and is a 4th year GP Registrar. He completed his medical degree in University College Dublin. James completed his Intern training in the western scheme and then moved to Australia where he worked in Adult Medicine and Emergency Medicine.
 
He returned to Galway in 2020 to commence GP training. He is interested in diet and exercise and how it pertains to physical and mental health.
 
He is a keen sportsman and he dreams of a Down All Ireland in the near future.

Miriam Cunningham

Miriam qualified as a RGN in 2004 and completed a Higher Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety in 2008 in NUI Galway. She worked in Occupational Health for 15 years prior to joining the practice. She is experienced in phlebotomy, wound care and immunisations and has a special interest in health promotion, mental health and occupational health.

Mary Murphy

Practice Nurse
Mary qualified as a general nurse in 1988 and a midwife in 1991. She has 6 years of experience in General Practice, 21 years in Acute Medicine and 6 years in Gerontology. She also holds qualifications in Diabetes, Breast Care, Counselling, Family Planning and Sexual Health. She is experienced in cervical screening, child and adult immunisations, wound care, and phlebotomy and has a special interest in chronic disease management.

Mary has worked as a General Practice Administrator in Dunmore since 2006, becoming practice manager in 2023. Prior to this, she worked at Irish Life Assurance Company for 10 years.

As Practice Manager, she is responsible for the general operations of the practice, ensuring that it runs seamlessly, effectively, and competently on a day-to-day basis. Over the years, she has fostered a friendly practice atmosphere where patients are welcomed by the practice team and cared for compassionately and competently.

In addition, her role includes management of facilities, finance, payment records of the practice and any complaints that may arise.

Chris Burke

Chris has worked as a General Practice Administrator in Dunmore since 2007. Prior to this, she worked in AIB for many years.

As a first point of contact for all patients at reception, she is committed to providing a professional, friendly, and confidential service and is happy to assist with any queries or concerns that you may have.

Debbie Clarke

Practice Administrator

Debbie has been a General Practice Administrator since 2020. She had previously worked for Coillte for over 20 years and subsequently as a pharmacy assistant for 2 years.

As a first point of contact for all patients at reception, she is committed to providing a professional, friendly, and confidential service and is happy to assist with any queries or concerns that you may have.
